Are skin imperfections keeping you from feeling confident about your appearance? We all have a blemish or two, but if acne scars, fine lines around your mouth, or patches of “peach fuzz” around your face are particularly bothersome to you, that’s reason enough to have a dermaplane. Led by board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. David B. Brothers, Plastic Surgery Centre of Atlanta offers dermaplane for men and women in Atlanta, Sandy Springs, and surrounding communities in Georgia.
What is a Dermaplane?
A dermaplane is a resurfacing treatment that precisely targets skin imperfections, sloughing away damaged skin cells to allow healthier, smoother skin to emerge. Because it works layer by layer, dermaplaning allows for tremendous control over skin resurfacing to help ensure the desired effect.
Benefits of a Dermaplane
Dermaplaning is an in-office procedure that addresses blemishes by sloughing away individual layers of damaged skin, leaving healthy layers of skin intact. This process helps to clear away visibly dull or damaged skin cells and prompt skin healing in the area. As the healing process continues, the skin produces new collagen and elastin, resulting in a firmer, smoother, and brighter skin appearance.
Who is the Ideal Candidate for a Dermaplane?
Depending on a patient’s needs and goals, we often recommend a dermaplane for many common skin complaints. It can be an excellent option to help:
- Smooth fine lines around the eyes, nose or mouth
- Diminish acne scars or surgical scars
- Remove peach fuzz to reveal smoother, brighter skin
- Soften rough patches
Because it targets specific areas of the skin, dermaplaning can be a great treatment to pair with other skin resurfacing treatments, such as a skin peel or facial
What Do I Need to Do Before Having a Dermaplane?
You should meet with one of our medical aestheticians to learn more about the treatment. You may need other treatments before or in conjunction with dermaplaning to achieve optimum results.
What Should I Expect on the Day of My Dermaplane?
Dermaplane treatments are performed in our office. During your treatment, damaged outer layers of skin are gently removed in the targeted area until the desired depth is reached. This process just takes a few minutes to complete. Following treatment, the area may be covered with a protective dressing.
How Long Does It Take to Perform a Dermaplane?
A dermaplane treatment takes less than one hour and is very relaxing.
What to Expect After a Dermaplane
Downtime is typically minimal after a dermaplane, although you may be instructed to avoid activities that could risk infection, such as swimming. Post-procedure redness, sensitivity, and tenderness at the treatment site are common; these effects typically subside within a few days after treatment. We will give you detailed aftercare instructions at your appointment.
Will I Have Scars After Getting a Dermaplane?
You will not have scars as a result of your dermaplane treatment.
When Will I See Results?
Every patient’s experience is unique; however, many patients notice an improvement in skin appearance and texture within one week after a dermaplane treatment. Results will continue to improve as your skin produces new collagen. Depending on your goals and skin condition prior to dermaplaning, a series of three to six treatments may be needed.
How Long Will the Results of a Dermaplane Last?
You can have a dermaplane treatment every two weeks to remove any dead skin cells and impurities, but this is not necessary. With good skin care at home, the results of your dermaplane treatment will last for several months.
