Laser Resurfacing in Atlanta, GALaser skin resurfacing helps with wrinkles, age spots, sun damage and many other skin flaws in just one treatment. Here are some tips for how to prepare for your laser resurfacing treatment.

Schedule a Consultation

The value of a consultation is often underestimated. Most people approach consultations as a chance to speak with a plastic surgeon to garner information about a particular procedure. The consultation is actually used for a physical exam, sharing information about your medical history, discussing the details of the procedures and much more. Some of the key information that you should share with Dr. Brothers includes any conditions that you currently have, even if it does not affect your skin or the treatment area, as well as the medications and supplements that you currently use. Also, be candid about your expectations for the procedure.

The Weeks Before Your Laser Resurfacing

If you smoke, you will need to stop for at least two weeks before your laser resurfacing procedure. Nicotine affects how your body heals, and not smoking may shorten the time your skin needs to heal after the treatment. Dr. Brothers may prescribe antibiotics before the treatment to help reduce the chances of infection. You may also need to stop using certain medications and supplements. This is also the time to reduce the amount of time that you spend in the sun or tanning beds.

Within 48 Hours of Your Laser Resurfacing Treatment

As the day draws closer for your laser resurfacing, you may need to make some adjustments to your home skincare routine. Exfoliation, light peels and some serums make changes to the skin that are not congruent with how the laser resurfacing process works. Please discuss your normal routine with Dr. Brothers so he can make the necessary recommendations.

The Day of Your Laser Resurfacing

You can wash your face in the morning but use a very mild cleaner. Do not apply moisturizers, makeup or other products. We will cleanse your face prior to the treatment. For smaller treatment areas, we use localized anesthesia. Larger areas are typically performed with general anesthesia. We recommend that someone drive you to the appointment and stay in order to make sure you get home safely.
