RF Microneedling
Of all the treatments available for rejuvenating the skin, one that continually earns patients’ praise is radiofrequency (RF) microneedling. The popular treatment combines the most effective aesthetic modalities—microneedling and RF—to pack a powerful punch. Integrating RF with microneedling ups the ante of both treatments to produce new collagen and elastin and improve the skin’s overall tone, texture, and firmness. Led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David B. Brothers, Plastic Surgery Centre of Atlanta offers RF microneedling for men and women in Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Marietta, and Fulton County.
What Is RF Microneedling?
RF microneedling is an easy treatment that combines the skin-boosting treatment of RF with microneedling. This well-tolerated solution provides significant results and can be used on virtually all skin types and tones, on the face and body, with next to no downtime.
While we use the Sylfirm X device for RF microneedling treatments, all RF Microneedling devices rely on small, sterile needles to safely pierce the skin to create a controlled injury while simultaneously delivering a dose of RF energy. The heat emitted is delivered around the tissue to create a controlled injury. Once the body recognizes the injury, it signals its natural healing response to take over, reorganizing and producing new collagen. As a result, the skin emerges thicker, firmer, and plumper, following RF microneedling.
Adding RF to microneedling provides better results. Pairing RF with microneedling also bypasses the epidermis so that the energy is delivered deeper within the skin at the optimal temperature for precise collagen stimulation.
Sylfirm X differs from the typical RF microneedling treatment because it reacts only to atypical vessels and tissue to decrease pigmentation. It treats stubborn discoloration, vascular lesions, rosacea, and melasma. It is also the world’s first FDA-approved pulsed and continuous wave RF microneedling device, meaning it can be used on different skin types to deliver multiple benefits. During a Sylfirm X treatment, the depth can go as deep as needed for precise penetration and thermal coagulation. There are two different modes used in the treatment, too: the pulsed wave mode creates selective coagulation to help regulate overactive melanocytes, strengthens the basement membrane to improve interactions between the epidermis and dermis, and eliminates abnormal blood vessels and senescent fibroblasts. The continuous wave mode helps stimulate collagen consult to bring about wound healing and dermal remodeling to rejuvenate, lift, and firm the skin. Together, the two modes create the NA effect to treat melasma while effectively improving skin texture and overall appearance. Sylfirm X can also rejuvenate the neck, decolletage, double chin, breasts, abdomen, arms, and knees.
The Benefits Of RF Microneedling
RF microneedling is beloved for its many benefits and ability to work on all skin types, even darker skin tones. RF microneedling can be used to help improve:
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Dull skin
- Skin sagging
- Enlarged pores
- Stagnant scalp circulation
- Stretch marks
- Acne and acne scars
- Loose skin on the stomach, arms, knees, breasts, and chest
In addition to all of the standard benefits of RF microneedling, Sylfirm X goes one step further to tackle discoloration-related issues, making it an effective solution for reducing the appearance of melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, redness, and rosacea, too. That’s because energy is released into the device through the 300-micron needle tips at a precise depth, penetrating the skin between 0.3 mm and 4 mm without causing thermal damage.
The nice thing about RF microneedling, including the Sylfirm X devices, is that the depth and energy can be adjusted as needed to make the treatment customizable for each patient. This also allows each treatment to reach a different depth of tissue for optimal results. The deeper the needles reach into the skin, the more discomfort there may be, so topical numbing cream is used to make the treatment more comfortable.
We combine Sylfirm X with a post-treatment topical application of Benev Exosome therapy to reduce inflammation and increase fibroblast production. Adding exosomes to the skin aids in healing and improves skin structure, elasticity, and firmness. Adding exosomes to your Sylfirm X treatment can increase collagen by 300% and elastin by 180% for better overall results.
Where Sylfirm X can be used
No matter your skin concerns and where they occur, you can use Sylfirm in multiple areas. The face is often a popular part to treat with RF microneedling, but it also works well for firming skin below the neck, which often succumbs to the effects of collagen and elastin loss. Sylfirm X can help rejuvenate skin that shows signs of aging, including fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, rough texture, and even scars on areas including the following:
- The neck
- The decolletage
- The chin area
- The breasts
- The abdomen
- The arms
- The knees
- Stretch marks
The protocol for treating skin beyond the face with RF microneedling is the same for the body as for the face. Multiple sessions are necessary to fully experience the benefits. Additionally, it’s worth noting that treating larger areas may incur a higher cost compared to treating smaller areas on the face.
What to expect after RF Microneedling
After an RF microneedling treatment, the skin will emerge pink or red, likely with little dots. There may also be some minimal swelling and bruising, which is normal. It’s essential to follow a specific skincare regimen of hydration and sun protection so that the skin heals appropriately and achieves the best results.
RF microneedling results are far from instant. The skin may appear glowy at first, but it can take anywhere from three to six months to see the final result. The degree of how dramatic your results will be is greatly dependent on the number of treatment sessions done and how deep the needles go.
What’s nice about RF microneedling, including Sylfirm X, is that there is little to no downtime, and you can go about the rest of your daily activities after your treatment.
Additional Treatments to Add on To RF Microneedling
To reach your aesthetic goals, consider combining RF microneedling with other aesthetic treatments for a combination approach. Lasers, PRP, chemical peels, and even plastic surgery work well with treatment and can be used for maximum results.
