Rhinoplasty in Atlanta, GA
Do you have problems breathing following a nose injury? Do you hate the way your nose looks every time you see your reflection in the mirror? Sometimes a simple adjustment is all that is needed to remedy your nasal appearance and breathing issues.
Your nose is the centerpiece of your face, so if you are uncomfortable with its shape, features, or size, then rhinoplasty may be the solution. Rhinoplasty, which is often referred to as a “nose job,” can help correct deformities and congenital defects so that you can be proud of the look and function of your nose.
Led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David B. Brothers, Plastic Surgery Centre of Atlanta offers rhinoplasty for men and women in Sandy Springs, Decatur, Duluth, and the surrounding areas.
Am I a Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose to correct abnormalities and bring your nose into better proportion with the rest of your face. Before performing rhinoplasty, a surgeon will sit down the patient and discuss what can be done to help alleviate breathing issues and/or create a more attractive nose.
What Is Rhinoplasty?
If you have ever thought that a small adjustment would make your nose “fit” your face better, then you may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty. This procedure can also help those who want to correct nasal abnormalities or who have breathing issues due to a nasal defect or deviated septum.
Since anesthesia is required, it is generally advised that candidates do not smoke, are in good health, and have realistic expectations of what a rhinoplasty will do for them. The best way to determine if rhinoplasty is the right choice for you is by consulting with a knowledgeable plastic surgeon.
How Is Rhinoplasty Performed?
Rhinoplasty is generally performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. There are three different rhinoplasty techniques, and Dr. Brothers carefully considers all three before deciding which will warrant the best results.
Standard Rhinoplasty (Closed Method)
In this procedure, two incisions are placed on the inside of the nostrils, through which Dr. Brothers uses specialty tools to reshape the cartilage, nasal bones, and tissues.
While it is rare, an open rhinoplasty is an option for patients with complex nasal concerns or an abnormally large nose. As part of open rhinoplasty, an additional incision is made externally across the strut between the nostrils (columella), through which Dr. Brothers reshapes cartilage, bones, and soft tissues dramatically.
This minimally invasive rhinoplasty approach is applied when only the nasal tip needs to be reshaped. This can be performed through a closed or open approach.
What Is Recovery Like After Rhinoplasty?
Following rhinoplasty, you are fitted with a split or external cast to protect your nose as it heals. Patients should expect swelling, residual bleeding for a day or two, and a moderate amount of pain.
Patients may notice bruising and swelling around the nose and under the eyes, which resolves after two to four weeks. Most people can return to work within one week, but those with physically strenuous jobs may need to take more time off.
How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost in Atlanta?
The cost of rhinoplasty varies by patient. During your consultation, you will be given a detailed cost estimate that includes all applicable surgical fees for Dr. Brothers, his surgical staff, medical supplies, and follow-up care.
Financing options for rhinoplasty are available via Alphaeon™ Credit and CareCredit®. We also accept cash, checks, and most major credit cards.
How should I choose my rhinoplasty surgeon?
You should always ask for a consultation with a plastic surgeon before agreeing to a rhinoplasty procedure. This allows you the chance to thoroughly inquire about the process and judge your comfort level with your surgeon.
What type of anesthesia is used for rhinoplasty?
Both general anesthesia and local anesthesia with IV sedation are options for rhinoplasty. The right choice for you will depend on the techniques used and your medical history. Dr. Brothers will explain your options during your consultation.
Will I have scars after my rhinoplasty procedure?
Occasionally, Dr. Brothers will make a small incision across the columella that can leave a scar, but usually, the incisions are placed internally and extremely hard to see.
When will I see my rhinoplasty results?
Most patients notice positive results within the first three months as the swelling around the nose starts to subdue. Final results can take up to a year to be fully evident.
What are the risks associated with rhinoplasty?
Due to the use of anesthesia, rhinoplasty carries with it a standard list of risks, although most are minimal. These include:
- Reactions to the anesthesia
- Improper wound healing
Most risks can be reduced by choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon, keeping a healthy diet, and quitting smoking, if applicable.
