Rhinoplasty in Atlanta, GA

As the centerpiece of your face, your nose serves to bring all of your facial features into balance, creating a harmonic, symmetrical, and attractive appearance. If you’re uncomfortable with the size or shape of your nose or feel that a nasal deformity is detracting from your overall facial appearance, we can help. Led by board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. David B. Brothers, Plastic Surgery Centre of Atlanta offers rhinoplasty, also known as a “nose job,” for men and women in Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Chamblee, Woodstock, Peachtree City, and Lawrenceville.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Some people say that the eyes draw the most attention, but you may not believe this if you have a nose with any type of imperfection. Nose jobs address the most common problems that detract from your overall appearance, such as:

  • Bumps
  • Crooked shape
  • Breathing problems
  • Being too large or small
  • Upturned tip of the nose

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty has benefited many of our Atlanta plastic surgery patients. The procedure is designed to reshape the nose and correct any abnormalities to improve the overall appearance of your face. Nose reshaping can help create a more attractive nose by bringing it into better proportion with your other facial features.

Who is the Ideal Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

You may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty if you meet the following criteria:

  • Wish your nose “fit” better with your other features
  • Would like to alter the size or shape of your nose or nostrils
  • Want your nose to have a more proportionate appearance
  • Would like to correct nasal abnormalities resulting from a birth defect, injury, or disease
  • Have difficulty breathing due to a deviated septum or other nasal defect

What Do I Need to Do Before Having Rhinoplasty?

If you are considering rhinoplasty to improve your appearance, Dr. Brothers will help you understand the procedure and the benefits for your individual case. He will describe the changes that he recommends and can even help you visualize the outcome.

You should also consider the cost of your nose job as the procedure is not covered by insurance. You can review our payment and financing options before your consultation.

What Should I Expect on the Day of My Rhinoplasty?

On the day of your procedure, you will be put under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation to ensure your comfort.

There are multiple rhinoplasty techniques, and Br. Brothers will work with you to determine which method best addresses your concerns and will provide the best results.

  • Standard Rhinoplasty

Standard rhinoplasty involves the placement of incisions just inside the nostrils. Through these incisions, your surgeon will reshape your nasal bones, cartilage, and tissues as needed to improve the contour, proportion, and shape of your nose and nostrils.

  • Open Rhinoplasty

The open rhinoplasty technique is not often used, but may be recommended if your concerns are more complex or your nose is large in size. This method requires one incision to be made externally across the strut between the nostrils (columella), through which your surgeon will be able to reshape soft tissues, bones, and cartilage more dramatically with better visibility.

  • Tip Plasty

Tip plasty is often recommended for patients who would most benefit from improvement to the nasal tip only. This may be accomplished through either a closed (standard) or open approach depending on the natural nose shape and desired outcome.

Once Dr. Brothers has reshaped your nose and the desired results have been achieved, your incisions will be sutured and dressed.

How Long Does It Take to Perform Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty can take as little as one to two hours, but more complex cases, such as those involving the hard structures inside the nose, may require more time.

What to Expect After Rhinoplasty

After your procedure, you will be fitted with an external cast or splint to promote healing, protect your nose, and help maintain your results. For the first day or two, your nostrils may be packed to help reduce swelling and absorb any residual bleeding. Most patients report that this is the most uncomfortable portion of recovery, and your surgeon may prescribe pain medication to help you manage any discomfort.

During the first few weeks, you will likely experience some swelling and bruising on and around the nose, though this should resolve within two to four weeks. Ice may be sparingly applied to the area, though you should discuss specific aftercare instructions with your surgeon. If you have a desk job, expect to be back to work within seven to 10 days, though you should avoid any strenuous activity for at least a month.

Will I Have Scars After Getting Rhinoplasty?

In some cases, Dr. Brothers places an incision in the soft tissue between your nostrils. You may develop a scar in the area, but it will be very difficult to see.

When Will I See Results?

Over the course of the first three months, you should notice the positive changes of your rhinoplasty as the swelling goes down. Most patients are comfortable going out into public once the bruising has subsided, though your final results may take up to a year to be fully visible.

How Long Will the Results of Rhinoplasty Last?

Trauma and some medical conditions can change the size and shape of your nose, but for the most part, the results of rhinoplasty are permanent.

Additional Procedures to Enhance Your Rhinoplasty Results

Dr. Brothers may recommend chin implants or cheek implants to improve the overall balance of your facial features. You may also want to consider lip injections.
