If you’ve ever heard the saying, “The eyes are windows to the soul,” you know how impactful the eyes can be. But, what if your eyes look tired all the time? Often, the eyes can change as we grow older due to excess fat surrounding the eyelids. The result is drooping eyelids, puffy eyes, and permanent dark circles for many.
What is Blepharoplasty?
Fortunately, if you’re have seen a change in your eyes with age and you want to address how tired your eyes make you look, there is a solution. Blepharoplasty is an eyelid surgery that works by removing the excess fat surrounding the eyes and tightens surrounding skin to make the eyes appear more youthful, full, and less tired.
Should I Consider Blepharoplasty?
If you feel that a blepharoplasty may be a good solution for you, there are a few things to consider. First, you’ll need to consult with your plastic surgeon to discuss the blepharoplasty results you can expect. Every person’s’ eyes differ. A personal consultation with an experienced surgeon can allow you to understand what surgery outcome you can expect for your skin type, areas of excess fat, age, and more. Furthermore, a consultation can also allow you to ask any questions you may have regarding the surgery.
How is a Blepharoplasty Performed?
Just like many elective cosmetic procedures, you can expect to be sedated for your blepharoplasty and given localized anesthetics. The surgeon creates minuscule incisions in the natural creases of the eyes to reduce the chance of the appearance of scarring after recovery. If there is fatty tissue surrounding both the upper and lower eyes, incisions are made in the crease of the upper lid and near the lash line. If excess fatty tissue is only seen in the lower eyelids, there may be the option to make the incision inside the lower eyelid. This eliminates the chance of external scarring completely. Once incisions are made, excess fat is removed to offer the appearance of smoother, younger looking skin.
