When the weather starts to get warmer, people tend to focus on toning their bodies for the summer and its skin-baring wardrobe. But it’s also important to get your face ready for warm weather.
In winter, your face takes a double whammy—cold weather and winds are harsh on skin, and indoor heating robs you of moisture. As a result, your complexion tends to get flakey and dull, losing the fresh, dewy look we all love, and facial lines and wrinkles can appear more prevalent.
Spring is the season of renewal, and we have some suggestions to give your face a fresh look for summer. Here are some of our favorite treatments to restore a youthful glow to your face, including nonsurgical cosmetic treatments and injectables.
- If you’d like to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, Juvederm® is an injectable gel made of hyaluronic acid, a volumizing, hydrating substance that occurs naturally in the skin. This dermal filler is a particularly effective way to smooth “smile lines” that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth. The injection process takes about 15 minutes and there’s really no downtime whatsoever. Juvederm® is a quick, easy way to restore volume and give the face a fresh, radiant appearance; it can also be used to enhance the lips.
- If you feel your cheeks look gaunt or hollow after a winter of shivering, VOLUMA™ XC is another injectable option to consider. Like Juvederm®, VOLUMA™ XC is made of hyaluronic acid and is specifically formulated to restore volume to the cheeks. This new filler is designed for those who want to plump their cheeks as well as add definition to the area, regardless of age. Because the shape and volume of the cheek impacts the overall appearance of the face, refining the cheeks improves the look of the entire face —with no surgery required. Treatments last up to two years and recovery time is virtually nonexistent.
- If you want to make your dull winter skin look bright and clear, we have a couple of suggestions. Laser resurfacing can improve the look of wrinkles as well as treat uneven skin tone and tighten the skin. After a laser treatment, your skin will look smoother and younger, with more consistent color; healing takes 7 to 10 days with all redness resolving in a month or so. Microdermabrasion is also very effective in treating the dull skin left behind after the cold winter months, and can also help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age and sun spots. Microdermabrasion can be performed at lunchtime with minimal redness that lasts about an hour after treatment; you’ll be left with smoother, softer skin and better skin texture. Both of these treatments stimulate the production of new collagen that improves your skin texture for longer-lasting improvement throughout the year.
