Far less invasive than a complete facelift, a mini facelift (or a mini lift as it’s also commonly known) is often the treatment of choice for younger patients displaying the initial signs of facial aging. However, despite its mini intent, this is still surgery which means it comes with risks, recovery time, and plenty of things it’s able and unable to achieve.
Still, the mini lift offers dramatic results for the right patients—those who aren’t quite ready for a full facelift but want to erase minor laxity and wrinkles. It’s less invasive than the standard, but that doesn’t mean it lacks effectiveness. If you’re considering a facelift, it’s important to know everything a mini-lift can and can’t do–and we’ve got you covered.
WHAT A MINI LIFT CAN DO
- It can improve jowls, looseness, and banding in the neck.
During the procedure, your plastic surgeon can surgically correct loose skin on the lower part of the face to create a tighter, smoother visage.
- It provides quicker recovery.
Because it isn’t as invasive as a full one, the patient’s recovery and healing process are quicker and easier. But it still requires a recovery period of one week or so.
- It can serve as a touch-up.
For patients who have already gone through a more extensive facelift and are looking for a little more fine-tuning, a mini lift helps them achieve that desired tightness.
- It creates a natural yet dramatic result.
Just because a mini facelift is a baby version of a facelift does not mean its results are not dramatic–they are. The muscles and fat are repositioned during the surgery, and excess skin is removed. The result is natural, yet everyone will ask you why you look so good and refreshed.
WHAT A MINI LIFT CAN’T DO
- It can’t last forever.
No plastic surgery procedure provides ‘forever’ results but instead resets the point of aging from surgery day forward. Therefore, the mini facelift will not last a lifetime, but it will improve the current state of aging. Also, it doesn’t address all signs of aging like a full facelift, so the results don’t last as long either.
- It isn’t scarless.
Like a full facelift, a mini lift results in hidden scars that are less visible to the naked eye.
- It can’t target every sign of aging.
As its name implies, a mini lift is ‘mini’ or limited, and not every area of the face–or every line and wrinkle–is addressed. In addition, due to the incisions used, there is limited access to correcting the fat, tissues, and muscles, especially in the upper face.
