2 Minute Read:

If you have lost a substantial amount of weight, or if your stomach post-childbirth is not the firm, flat abs that you desire, you may be considering a tummy tuck. Tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, is a fairly common procedure, and there are several different types.

If you are looking at the best procedure for your body, you are probably wondering about the difference between a modified tummy tuck and a modified mini tummy tuck. Let’s explore the differences between the two.

What Is a Modified Tummy Tuck?

A modified tummy tuck is a procedure that only addresses loose skin and stubborn fat below the belly button. This procedure allows the surgeon to target the lower abdomen without the more invasive changes in the tissue and muscles above the belly button. The incision is shorter than a standard tummy tuck, which may make the recovery time shorter and less painful.

The recovery for a modified tummy tuck is shorter than a traditional tummy tuck, as the muscles around the ribs and above the belly button are not operated on. This procedure may be especially attractive to women who have been left with sagging skin after childbirth that cannot be corrected with diet and exercise alone.

What Is a Modified Mini Tummy Tuck?

A modified mini tummy tuck is an option if you have abdominal skin or a muscle wall that requires adjustment. This procedure fixes sagging skin and lax muscles and is even less invasive than a modified tummy tuck. The skin and muscles are lightly tightened, and the belly button may be moved to a different position. The incisions for this procedure are small, usually right about the pubic line.

Is a Mini Tummy Tuck or a Modified Tummy Tuck Right For Me?

Regardless of which procedure is right for you, any tummy tuck should be done by a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in abdominoplasties.

A modified mini tummy tuck is best for patients with muscles that have been stretched (usually from childbirth) in the lower abdomen that will not re-tighten without surgery. This procedure is performed on healthy weight people who are within 15 pounds of their ideal weight and require lighter tightening than a traditional tummy tuck.

A modified tummy tuck may be performed on patients who have excess adipose tissue to remove, as well as tightening the loose skin and muscles in the lower abdomen.
