We’ve recently added truSculpt to our body contouring menu, and our patients are delighted with their results from this non-invasive body shaping treatment. But since it is so new, I bet your wondering “how does truSculpt compare to other options?”.
To help you with your own research, we’ve outlined some of the key similarities and differences between truSculpt and other popular fat reduction methods.
truSculpt vs. CoolSculpting
Both truSculpt and CoolSculpting are FDA-cleared treatments that remove fat cells without incisions or scars. Neither treatment requires any anesthesia or downtime, and results appear gradually during the first 2 to 3 months following treatment, as your body eliminates the fat cells gradually yet naturally.
CoolSculpting works by deep-freezing fat cells using an applicator that clamps onto the treatment area, where it is left for about 1 hour. Because your tissue must be pulled up into the applicator for treatment, CoolSculpting can only be used on areas where there is enough flesh to grab onto, such as the hips or abdomen. For a similar reason, thinner patients may not be well suited for this procedure.
In contrast, truSculpt heats fat cells with radio frequencies, delivered through a small hand-held device that your provider places gently against the skin. This process takes an hour or much less, depending on the size and location of the treatment areas. There is no pulling or squeezing with truSculpt body shaping, so it’s not limited to certain areas of the body and doesn’t require a minimum amount of bulge. This allows us to treat smaller areas of excess fat—for example, on the knees or underarms. It’s also a great option for leaner patients who aren’t good candidates for CoolSculpting.
truSculpt vs. Liposuction
As a 100% non-invasive treatment, truSculpt can be an excellent, recovery-free alternative to lipo for patients with more modest “problem areas,” helping to shrink fatty bulges by up to 25%. It’s best for those who are satisfied with their shape overall, but have a few spots they’d like to perfect.
Liposuction is usually the best option for patients who need more extensive reshaping, would like to reduce fat in several areas of the body, or have larger fat deposits. When performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, liposuction can achieve dramatic improvements with a relatively short recovery. Typically, patients are back to work within a week, and the small scars are difficult to detect when cared for properly.
