Although the cooler winter months are upon us and bare legs are out of sight, that doesn’t mean they should be out of mind. If you have spider veins, now is the perfect time to treat them so your legs are ready to be seen come springtime. At the Plastic Surgery Centre of Atlanta, we offer sclerotherapy to get rid of unsightly spider veins.
Sclerotherapy (SKLER-o-ther-a-pee) is a simple, very common, non-surgical spider vein treatment. During the procedure, a small amount of fluid—a “sclerosant” called Asclera—is injected into the vein, which eventually causes the vein to collapse. After wearing compression stockings for only two days, it’s possible to return to normal activity, including strenuous exercise. Veins typically fade over a few weeks’ time. If necessary, veins may be treated multiple times, usually 4 to 6 weeks apart.
This process is so easy, there’s no reason to put it off. We are excited to have Jana Emmett performing at the Plastic Surgery Centre of Atlanta on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Jana has over seven years of experience doing sclerotherapy, and spent an additional eight years in the field of vascular surgery. She has a master’s degree in medical science and is a licensed physician assistant. Jana is skilled in vein treatment and she will apply her knowledge and experience to treat your spider veins.
If you’re bothered by the appearance of your legs, you’re not alone. Spider veins are extremely common! It’s estimated that as many as 55% of women and 45% of men in the United States have some kind of problem with their veins. Spider veins often look like little tree branches or spider webs, and can be found in small patches or large areas of skin. They are small and close to the surface of the skin, and can occur as result of aging, hormonal changes, exposure to sun, injuries, or genetics.
Spider veins happen frequently in the legs, because the veins in the legs have to work the hardest to transport blood back to the heart. Leg veins bear a lot of pressure, and over time, that pressure can take its toll. In fact, it’s estimated that half of people over 50 have spider veins.
With Jana Emmett at the Plastic Surgery Centre, there’s no reason not to have beautiful legs in Atlanta this summer. Spider veins can be unsightly and embarrassing; don’t let them dictate your wardrobe as the weather warms up. Restore youth to your legs through sclerotherapy before their big reveal this spring. Call our office for a consultation, and you’ll be one step closer to loving your legs year round.
