Hot-lanta is one of the South’s best places to spend the fall season. While Halloween events in Atlanta are all the rage thanks to some of the scariest haunted houses in America, there are tons of other fun fall activities for you to check out. Whether you’re here for a weekend or are a long-time local, we want to share some of our favorite things to do in Atlanta for autumn.
Pumpkin Festival at Stone Mountain Park
Stone Mountain Park is one of the coolest, family-friendly places to go for fall activities in Atlanta. With so many activities taking place throughout the month of October, you’ll need to plan your Pumpkin Festival itinerary so you don’t miss out on any of the fun. Events and activities include:
- Spookley’s A-MAZE-ING Adventure Maze
- Pumpkinpalooza
- “Wheel of Misery” including getting splurfed with slime
- Pie Eating Contest
- Trick or Treat Scavenger Hunt
- SkyHike adventure ropes course
- 4-D experience of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
- Summit Skyride over the scenic fall scenery of Stone Mountain Park
Scarecrows in the Garden
Be amazed at more than 100 handmade scarecrows on display at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. As part of the annual Scarecrows in the Garden, this community-centric event features scarecrows designed by local artists, businesses, nonprofits, and schools. Hosted throughout the month of October, the event also features Imaginary Worlds’ oversized plant creatures in celebration of Ogre-tober.
Netherworld
Located in Norcross, Georgia, Netherworld has been billed as one of the most terrifying haunted houses in the world. Each year, the haunted house adopts a creepy new theme to thrill guests. Taking place September 26 through November 8 at the Georgia Antique and Design Center, admission ranges from $25 to $35. The mad monsters at Netherworld Haunted House include everything from witches and the Dead Ones to Mangler’s cloning experiments gone badly. The 2014 season will include new terrors such as The Hidden Ogre, Tomb Monkeys, and a Bottomless Escape Shaft.
Looking for an additional level of Halloween terror? Netherworld was recently investigated by Roswell Georgia Paranormal Investigations. The results? It turns out that the Norcross-based haunted house is a hot bed of paranormal activity. You have been warned.
Chastain Park Arts Festival
Taking place November 1-2, the Sixth Annual Chastain Park Arts Festival, presented by the Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces, is a must-see for art lovers. Chastain Park will be transformed into an outdoor art gallery featuring over 200 local and regional artists. Against the backdrop of changing leaves and vibrant fall colors, this free event will have fine arts and crafts on display, a children’s area to keep the kids engaged, and plenty of food and drink to enjoy.
Wherever you find yourself this autumn, be sure to check out the exciting seasonal happenings right here in Atlanta.
