Facelift and Neck Lift in Atlanta, GA

Scroll

Genetics, gravity, sun damage, environmental factors, pollution, and lifestyle choices all wreak havoc on the quality of your facial skin. But the outer layers of skin are only part of the reason for an aging face–when there is a loss of both support (in the tissues and muscles) and facial fat, it causes a sunken appearance and hollows.

As aging affects the face, changes in volume (where fat exists in the face), loose skin, and poorly defined features may be evident. Also, aging faces typically transform from an angular or tapered shape to a longer and more square one.

A facelift is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgeries. It works to eliminate age-related damage, deep wrinkles, and lines on the lower and midface and restore the contours of the face. Neck lift surgery works towards the same end goal by tightening the skin on the neck and reducing the appearance of jowls or vertical banding around the neck.

Led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David B. Brothers, Plastic Surgery Centre of Atlanta offers facelift and neck lift surgery for men and women in Sandy Springs, Decatur, Duluth, and the surrounding areas.

What are Facelift and Neck Lift Surgery?

Facelift and neck lift surgery minimize the visible signs of aging like wrinkles and sagging skin and redefines lost facial contours. It is common to perform these two procedures together to maintain a harmonious balance between the face and the neck.

By removing and redraping loose skin and tightening and repositioning the underlying muscles, fat, and tissue, patients can see visibly tighter contours with fewer wrinkles and crepe-like skin.

Facelifts and neck lifts should not look ‘done’. Instead, they should appear natural, and you should still look like yourself, just better. Your face will continue to age after surgery but from a new starting point, and you will look at least ten years younger.

Am I a Candidate for Facelift and Neck Lift Surgery?

The ideal candidate for a facelift and neck lift is someone with moderate to severe lines and wrinkles and loose skin on the lower part of their face and neck. In addition, candidates for this procedure wish to obtain an overall tighter and more youthful appearance.

Neck lift candidates may have muscle banding or excess skin and pockets of fat under the chin and around the neck and jowls, obscuring the line of the neck. Additionally, facelift candidates may have lost definition and elasticity and have loose skin all over the face, and a general tired, worn appearance.

Both facelift and neck lift candidates should not smoke and be in overall good health. It is important to be realistic about what these procedures can and cannot achieve. The best way to determine if you are the right candidate for this procedure is to have a personal consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon.

Facelift Guide Call To Action

How Is Facelift and Neck Lift Performed?

The goal of a facelift is to remove loose skin and restore the youthful contours of the face. Each facelift and neck lift is tailored to the patient’s specific needs and wants. The techniques chosen for your surgery will depend on the extent of loose skin, the degree of lost definition, and the results you hope to achieve.

There are a few options for facelift and neck lift surgery. The correct technique, or combination of techniques, will be discussed and selected during your consultation with Dr. Brothers.

What Is a Facelift?

A facelift is a surgical procedure that addresses the lower two-thirds of the face (between the midface and the jawline). It removes loose skin and repositions and tightens the underlying muscles, tissues, and fat, which give the face structure, support, and definition.

Small, barely visible incisions are made in the hairline right above the ears, around the earlobe, and behind the ears. Once fully healed, the scars will be virtually undetectable.

Dr. Brothers will tighten the underlying facial tissues (also known as the SMAS layer) and muscles and reposition the fat. The skin is then re-draped and sutured to reduce deep wrinkles and reshape the outline of your jaw and facial features.

What Is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift tightens the entire neck, the area beneath the chin, and the jawline. Neck lift incisions are behind the ears, and sometimes an additional incision is made underneath the chin.

The two different neck lift techniques used are:

  • Platysmaplasty, which tightens the neck muscles
  • Cervicoplasty, which removes the excess pockets of fat in the neck and chin

What Is a Mini Facelift?

A mini facelift may be appropriate for those patients who experience a lesser degree of facial aging and sagging. A mini facelift corrects the lines, wrinkles, and creases around the mouth and nose and repositions fat along the jawline.

Dr. Brothers hides the incisions in the hairline, in front of and behind the ear, and at the bottom of the earlobe. The skin and muscles are pulled tight and sutured closed.

What Is Recovery Like After Face and Neck Lift Surgery?

Most patients can go home within hours after having their facelift and neck lift surgery.

It is normal to have some pain, swelling, and bruising around the incision points and lower face (this can last for up to one month). You may be prescribed painkillers to help manage any discomfort, and some patients may choose to wear camouflage makeup to hide any bruising or redness.

Most people can resume regular activity after about two weeks.

How Much Does Facelift and Neck Lift Surgery Cost in Atlanta?

Dr. Brothers tailors facelift and neck lift surgery to you, and therefore, the cost of your procedure will reflect that customization. You will be given a cost estimate during your consultation that will explain all applicable fees for both the surgeon and his staff, and any necessary medical supplies and follow-up care.

Financing is available through CareCredit®,  and we also accept cash, checks, and most major credit cards.

Facelift and Neck Lift Surgery FAQS

  • How should I choose my facelift and neck lift surgeon?

The results of your facelift and neck lift markedly depend on the skills of the surgeon you choose. You should consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Brothers, who specializes in facial plastic surgery.

  • What type of anesthesia is used for facelift and neck lift?

Facelift and neck lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia to provide you with comfort and safety.

  • Will I have scars after my facelift and neck lift procedures?

Yes. As with all types of surgery, scars will exist after the procedure. However, the scars will be well hidden in the hairline and the natural creases of the ears.

  • When will I see my facelift and neck lift results?

You may see initial results immediately; it takes a few months for the swelling to subside and for the tissue and muscles to settle into their new positions for the entire visible result.

  • What are the risks associated with facelift and neck lift?

As with any elective surgery, there are potential risks. They include:

    • Adverse reactions to the anesthesia
    • Bleeding
    • Infection
    • Prolonged wound healing
    • Facial paralysis
    • Unfavorable scarring
  • Can I combine facelift and neck lift with other procedures?

Yes. It is common to combine a facelift and neck lift with other procedures because facelift and neck lift surgery only addresses the midface area. Some patients choose to combine their facelift with a brow lift or blepharoplasty to address the eyes and the upper third of the face. Additionally, many patients follow up their facelift surgery with BOTOX Cosmetic (to minimize frown lines, forehead lines, or crow’s-feet) and dermal fillers (to restore facial volume).

Other popular procedures often combined with facelifts include fat injections, lip and chin augmentation, and resurfacing lasers.
